Description

Mandolin 1 is a beginning class with a folk and bluegrass emphasis. No previous experience is required. Lessons include tuning, basic chords and progressions, strumming, picking, tremolo, and fingering techniques to build a foundation for use in many music genres. An eight-string acoustic mandolin is required for this course, please bring the mandolin, and a notepad and pen with you to the first class. Rental instruments may be available. Supplemental materials/books are included with the course.

 

About the instructor:  Tim Morrison has been active in the acoustic music scene for many years in the Salt Lake Valley. He is a former president of the Intermountain Acoustic Music Association (IAMA), is the director of Utah Friends of Bluegrass, and was the judging director for the Utah State Instrument Championships for over 20 years. Tim has recorded with various bluegrass bands and has both promoted and played at many concert venues, festivals, and shows from coast to coast and many places in between. Tim has been involved for over 30 years with Community Education programs, teaching Karate/Self-Defense/Tae Kwon Do, and for the last 20+ years teaching guitar, banjo, and mandolin classes.
