The class starts with teaching Phonics (students will be introduced to the names of letters of the Spanish alphabet and sounds these letters produce in words, as well as basic rules of accentuation. The focus will be on Latin American pronunciation, although the Castilian version will be introduced as well for those students who plan to travel to Spain. The class will include the basic vocabulary ( numbers, time, calendar, weather, etc.) and the basic grammar( agreement between nouns and adjectives, conjugation of the verbs in the present tense, etc.) Also there will be dialogues and easy stories for comprehension to reinforce the previously learnt information. Each session includes a lot of exercises.
About the instructor: Tatyana Davis is originally from Ukraine. She has always been fascinated with foreign language linguistics. She has always wanted to be able to read the books of famous authors in their original tongue, not a translated version into her native language. She has 26 years of experience teaching languages at the college-level, middle school, and 20+ years teaching adult community education at East High. She has a Bachelor of Science in Education with a Major in Spanish and a Master of Arts in Spanish linguistics.
